Candidate for East Coast Bays

(List Rank 2)

Paul Adams was born on the North Shore in Auckland where he has lived most of his life. He’s been married to Sue, a 'Westie' from Green Bay, Auckland for 34 years. They have four great adult children and five grand children. For 30 years they have lived on a lifestyle block, experiencing the benefits of country living close to the city.

A Carpenter and Joiner by trade Paul went from this to build a successful manufacturing company on Auckland’s North Shore specialising in outdoor playground equipment for both schools and public parks.

As a sportsman, with a determination to win despite the odds, Paul has won three separate NZ championships. This led to him turning professional and driving for both Toyota and General Motors with great success. He is a life member of the Hibiscus Coast Motor Sport Club. Motor sport and his love of cars led him to develop a multi franchised retail car sales site and workshop facilities in Albany. This was sold after entering Parliament in 2002.

Having obtained their private pilots licences both Paul and Sue have enjoyed many hours flying around this beautiful nation of New Zealand. Paul naturally always preferred the aerobatics! He is a past president of the North Shore Aero Club.

Passionate about the family, and having four generations in his own, this passion led Paul into new territory by serving as an MP from 2002 until 2005. This experience has convinced Paul that a true family party will make a big difference in New Zealand. His vast “hands on life experiences” have and will bring a much-needed down to earth aspect to politics. He firmly believes laws must work on a practical day-to-day basis; they can’t just be good in theory.

Standing in the East Coast Bays electorate in 2005 Paul pulled in just under 6000 votes during a short five-week campaign. This confirms his strong credibility within his home electorate. Paul has served his local community as a Trustee of City Impact Churches for many years. Paul firmly believes that this nation needs generational politicians that understand and believe in the family and the associated pressures of life. He wants to do his part in re establishing great families in NZ.

Paul and Richard know it can be done. They have already seen many families transformed simply by receiving the right sort of instruction and help. The Family Party team, with your help, have the passion and dedication to make a real difference in 2008.

Speech to Family Party Conference, September 08

Welcome to you all. Thank you so much for your attendance at this our pre election conference.

As many of you will know I am a former MP having served with another party from 2002 to 2005. I learnt while in parliament that our words can be one thing but our actions something else!

Let me quote you the prayer we prayed every time before parliament commenced.

It is a very good prayer.

A prayer most New Zealanders would agree with.

"Almighty God, humbly acknowledging our need for Thy guidance in all things, and laying aside all private and personal interests, we beseech Thee to grant that we may conduct the affairs of this House and of our country to the glory of Thy holy name, the maintenance of true religion and justice, the honour of the Queen, and the public welfare, peace, and tranquility of New Zealand, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

I can almost hear the reply from heaven -------- Yeah Right!

The major difference I have found between that other party and The Family Party is that in this party we have 100% unity in regards to the principles that are important for our families and our Nation; as we are all working from the same song sheet!

Currently we have a Government that has been doing everything in its power to remove Christianity and its teachings as the foundational faith of New Zealand, with disastrous consequences in our Nation.

Christianity is all about freedom of choice.

"Choose this day who you will serve as for me and my house we will serve the Lord."

Speech to Family Party Conference, May 08

Ladies and gentlemen, fellow Christians, family members and supporters, welcome.

What a great day this has been. We all thank you so much for your attendance, your many kind words and most of all your support.

They say Christianity and politics shouldn’t mix, but I believe that this year Christianity must return to politics. The wellbeing of our nation and our future generations depend on it. In fact, the more I see families suffer and even ignored and hurt through the governmental policies of New Zealand, the more I believe that this is the day, and this is the time to see the Christian values our nation was birthed upon, restored to our land.

Let me read a quote from a great man, a man no doubt known to most of you here today. The man I refer to is William Booth, the founder of The Salvation Army who said:

  • “The chief danger of the 20th century will be religion without the Holy Ghost,
  • Christianity without Christ,
  • Forgiveness without repentance,
  • Salvation without regeneration,
  • Politics without God,
  • A Heaven without Hell.”
