Party Principles

As set out in the Family Party Constitution 2007, the principles governing the direction of the members are:

1. AUTHORITY
In keeping with New Zealand’s parliamentary prayer and established Christian-based constitutional arrangements, honour the Lordship of Jesus Christ. In doing so, we recognise that the state is not the ultimate authority.

2. SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE
Affirm the separation of church and state but consider Christian values and just governance to be inextricable. The Party affirms freedom of religious choice.

3. GOVERNMENT FUNCTION
Commit to delivering core Government functions in an efficient and prudent manner without impinging on or compromising the ability of families to flourish and prosper independent of the state.

4. THE ROLE OF FAMILY
Recognise the 'natural intergenerational family' as the cornerstone and basic building block of society. To that end, the Party will develop, advocate and support policies that strengthen New Zealand families for the benefit of future generations.

5. MARRIAGE
Recognise the 'institution of marriage' (a lifelong covenant exclusively between one man and one woman) as the benchmark for normative 'family form' and the stable basis for raising children.

6. TE TIRITI O WAITANGI
Recognise Te Iwi Maori as Tangata whenua and Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the foundational document that unites its covenant partners, Crown and Maori.

7. ECONOMY
Pursue economic excellence in an open market economy that encourages work, trade and ownership. The Party will maintain prudent, responsible and transparent economic practice vested in the best interests of all New Zealand families and future generations.

8. THE RULE OF LAW & JUSTICE
Uphold the rule of law and the proper maintenance of justice. The Party affirms human rights balanced by personal responsibility to self, the family, the New Zealand public and the next generation.

9. SANCTITY OF LIFE
Protect and uphold the sanctity of life for all New Zealanders, extending to the unborn child.

10. RESPONSIBLE STEWARDSHIP
As responsible stewards, protect and maintain a safe and clean natural environment for present and future generations.
