"Do Maori have a warrior gene? Well, it took a special people to navigate the open ocean on a log to get here..."

- Richard Lewis: TV One’s Eye to Eye

The Family Party acknowledges Te Iwi Maori as Tangata whenua and Te Tiriti O Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi) as the foundation document that unites its covenant partners, the Crown and Maori.

The Family Party priority towards Maori, as for all New Zealand families, is to enhance the social and economic position of whanau (family) through policies that understand and reflect the importance of whanau in everyday life.
A whanau approach to Maori issues: The Family Party believes:

  • Whanau (family) have the inherent potential to thrive and flourish independent of the state
  • Te Tiriti O Waitangi is a significant founding agreement that unites its covenant partners, the Crown and Maori
  • Full, fair and final resolution and closure for past injustices (treaty settlements) must be expediently achieved

Policies to empower whanau: The Family Party priority towards Maori is to strengthen and improve the social and economic position for Maori whanau and children.
